Every ten years our Village Sage is wheeled out under our historic oak tree (see 27 March) to answer questions that are worrying residents. The Sage is believed to be more than 250 years old, has one eye, and his strangely-styled white hair (with one long upward tuft) and beard (with two long downward tufts) now almost cover his face.
